Former Governor Ikedi Ohakim has reassured that
despite the heat from the Imo PDP state congress over which zone
produces the chairman of the party, he is committed to delivering Chief
Athan Achonu as Senator representing Okigwe Zone in the forthcoming
rerun Senate election.
In a telephone chat with Ifeanyi Njoku , Ohakim
called on the PDP members in Okigwe Zone to unite and work hard to
ensure that Senator Athan Nneji Achonu is returned as the Senator of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria to represent Ndi-Okigwe in the politics and
governance of the nation as symbolised by the National Assembly.
Ohakim further assured that delivering Achonu in the rerun election
remains his next project.
He said: “I have a big project and goal
now, which is to rally round Okigwe PDP leaders and members to mobilise
our people and party faithful to ensure that Chief Achonu is reelected
and returned to the Senate.”
He added that "Okigwe PDP is United
and peaceful, what is important for us now is to work together as one
big family to deliver our party in the next senatorial rerun election.
As the leader of the party in Imo and former Governor of Imo State from
Okigwe Zone, I am at home and in peace with my brother Senator Achonu.
I want our party members to work harmoniously as a family and also to
forgive each other and whomsoever that have offended them one way or the
other".
He also said that “what anybody can do now to make him
Ohakim happy is to ensure that Chief Athan is delivered and reelected
in the next Imo North Senatorial rerun.”
