UNILAG GIRLS SOLD THEIR OVARY FOR 120000
Interesting piece of information indeed.
We have heard different stories on peoples’ bid to get wealth. Some steal, some prostitute but trending among Unilag girls now is the selling of ovaries.
According to the gist, most of the happy pregnant women we find around are products of these girls’ enterprise. Sources have reported that the trade takes place at a company off Keffi bus stop, Awolowo Road Ikoyi.
The information gathered is that the ladies are asked to come during their menstrual period for the ” perfect hatch”. This company has a branch at Yaba, behind E-centre. I think this proximity makes it easier for the Unilag babes to sell this key reproductive organ.
Annoyingly, the money generated from the “business” might just go into Brazilian weaves, phones, make up etc.

Congress needs to enact a shield law for journalists
Congress needs to enact a shield law for journalists
PRESIDENT OBAMA seems to be of two
minds when it comes to freedom of information and the role of the press.
On his first day in office, he committed his administration to
“creating an unprecedented level of openness in government,” and he
proclaimed in a recent address that a free press is essential to
democracy. At the same time, Mr. Obama’s administration has conducted
the most far-reaching campaign against leaks in recent memory, with
twice as many prosecutions as in all previous administrations combined.
While both of these ideas may be strongly held by the president, they
are coming into conflict.
There has always been a delicate balance
between secrecy and the public’s need to know what the government is
doing and how decisions are reached. The volume of classified
information has exploded in the digital age, and so has the number of
people authorized to access it. The urge of government officials to talk
about such matters — out of dissent, or just a desire to spin — remains
undiminished. We are firm believers in maintaining this balance between
secrecy and openness, but we worry that, in all the hysteria over
leaks, it may tip too much to one side.
A discouraging sign came in the July 19
decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit, which held
that New York Times reporter James Risen had no privilege under the
First Amendment that would allow him to refuse to testify about a
confidential source in a leak investigation. Mr. Risen’s argument that
he should not be compelled to testify in a case involving a former CIA
official was supported by many news media organizations, including this
newspaper, and he has vowed to appeal the ruling.
If allowed to stand, the ruling could
jeopardize the ability of reporters to protect the identity of sources, a
vital tool for journalistic inquiry. As Judge Roger Gregory wrote in a
dissent, “The public, of course, does not have a right to see all
classified information held by our government. But public debate on
American military and intelligence methods is a critical element of
public oversight of our government. Protecting the reporters’ privilege
ensures the informed public discussion of important moral, legal and
strategic issues.”
The Risen case underscores the need to
write into federal law a shield for the news media. Some 49 states and
the District have established media shield laws or recognized such
privileges in court. A good place to start on the federal level is with
legislation recently introduced by Sens. Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) and
Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.). While the proposed law would not offer
absolute protection, it would introduce a “balancing test” for a court
to use before compelling disclosure from a reporter. The test would take
into account the public interest in the disclosure and in maintaining
the free flow of information. This should restrain overzealous
prosecutors from roping journalists into leak prosecutions and sustain
the uneasy but essential balance between secrecy and openness.

THE POST UTME SADEST NEWS
Death so cruel!
Ten of them were going
to write the post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of
the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), but nine never got to their
centre in Enugu. They died in an accident at Umunna Village in
Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State. The only survivor,
Nelson Chibuike, relives the accident and his miraculous survival.
OLADELE OGE (400-Level Mass Communication) reports.
THEY were on their way to write the
post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) of the University
of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) when their vehicle veered off the road and
sped into the bush. Ten of them were in the bus, but only one survived
to write the test, with a heavily bandaged leg and wound on his
forehead.
Nelson Chibuike is thanking God for his
miraculous survival. The Entanco Transport Company Toyota Hiace bus,
which was conveying the candidates to Nsukka from Enugu, crashed at
Umunna village in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Julius Chidi, who drove the ill-fated blue and white 18-seater bus, was
among the victims. When CAMPUSLIFE got to the scene, the victims were
being removed from the mangled vehicle by rescuers.
Nelson, who was said to be breathing
slowly when he was rescued, was taken to Bishop Shannah Hospital,
Nsukka. The bodies of others were deposited in the morgue.
The bus left Enugu with 18 passengers,
some of who alighted in villages before Umunna Village. The bus’
number-plate could not be seen at the scene because it was damaged.
Nelson, who received palliative
treatment to enable him take the test, was brought to the campus with a
swollen forehead and bandaged leg.
Accompanied by his mother and brother,
Nelson wrote the test last Thursday in a red Toyota car marked Lagos BB
564 FKJ amid tight security by the police and the university’s security
personnel. The vehicle was parked in front of the Faculty of Arts’ New
Lecture Hall.
In an interview with CAMPUSLIFE after
writing the test, Nelson, who wants to study Computer Science, relived
the accident. Asked the cause of accident, the injured candidate, who
could not talk, responded by writing on a piece of paper.
He wrote: “None of us knew what caused
the accident but I knew the bus was on top speed on the narrow road.
Maybe the driver lost control, I don’t know but the bus suddenly ran
into the bush. I heard many passengers screaming Jesus Christ but that
was the end. I lay among the dead passengers for several minutes before I
was rescued and taken to the hospital by Good Samaritans.
“I will forever be grateful to God for
saving me from untimely death. He redeemed my soul out of nine dead
people. I was the only survivor.”
Recalling how he received the news of
the accident, Nelson’s brother, Ugochukwu, a post-graduate student of
Physics and Astronomy at UNN, said: “At 3:05pm on Tuesday, I got a call
from an anonymous caller to report to Bishop Shannah Hospital and
identify my family member among dead persons brought into the hospital’s
mortuary. I screamed that ‘it won’t be my portion in Jesus name’. I
knew Nelson was coming to write exam but I never expected something
untoward would happen to him. In faith, I went to the hospital and saw
my brother alive.”
Nelson’s mother, Mrs Chibuike, who
waited for her son at the central security post of the university, was
silent for several minutes before she agreed to speak to CAMPUSLIFE
after our correspondent’s prodding.
She said: “My son, there is nobody that
will visit the spot where the accident occurred and believe that a goat
can survive not to talk of human being. The accident was terrible and I
thank God that I did not have cause to bury my child.” She said she
reserved her testimony to “the wonders of God” till Sunday in her
church.
When CAMPUSLIFE visited the Nsukka
branch of Entanco Transport Company, the manager, Mr Benedict Ikeagu,
was not around. He was said to have left for Enugu on official
assignment.
But an official, who spoke to our
correspondent, said there was no passenger’s manifest available to
contact the families of the victims. The source said the driver’s body
had been moved to UNN Teaching Hospital. The late Julius Chidi, who got
married last year, had a six-month old baby.

THE AMAZING WEDDING IN THE WORLD
Groom
In A Wheelchair, Bride On A Stretcher - Innovative Wedding! by osaseyeishere(m): 10:33pm On Jul 08
No two weddings are the same. The latest trend of innovative wedding show sees Italians Gabriel and Valentina Lenzotti Ginebri put up one of the surprise or craziest wedding so far this year. The crowd of invited guests and families from both sides gathered in church waiting for the bride and groom but the soon to be wed couples were nowhere to be found. One of the members of the families heard the ambulance siren going off. It was so loud it drew the attention of the priest and other invited guest at the church. To their surprise was the bride and groom being helped out of the ambulance. The bride in a stretcher and the groom in a wheelchair.
The bride and groom were ushered into the church in an act of escort by nurses. Of course, after a start like that, the ending could not live up to the hype.

ASUU IS STILL ON STRIKE
We have not called-off strike – ASUU
BY DAYO ADESULU &
IKENNA ASOMBA
Following the indefinite strike embarked by the
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), last Monday, the union,
Sunday, disclosed that it will not suspend the industrial action, unless
the Federal Government accedes to the agreement it reached with it in
2009. This is even as the union debunked reports on some social and
online media that it has suspended its one-week old strike.Speaking with Vanguard, ASUU Chairman, University of Lagos (UNILAG), Chapter, Dr. Karo Ogbinaka said: “The strike is still ongoing. We have not suspended or called-off the strike. Perhaps, before we do that, a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting must be held, then, the resolutions of the meeting will be made known to all chapters of the union,” adding, “The indefinite and total strike will continue, except government meets our demands.”
Meanwhile, FG through its Ministry of Education led by Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufain will Monday, meet with stakeholders in the industry, which included Vice Chancellors of Federal universities and their Governing Councils, together with interested Vice Chancellors of State and Private universities.
However, at the time of filing this report, full details of agenda for the meeting was not made known. It would recalled that the union had last Monday, called out its members on an indefinite industrial action over what it termed government’s failure to honour the Academic Earned Allowance (AEA) which formed a component of the 2009 agreement the government signed with
